Class Description:
In 9th Grade World Civilizations, students will learn about the foundational civilizations of the Western World from the Renaissance through the Cold War. In 7th Grade Social Studies, students learned how the civilizations of the Eastern World helped shape our philosophies and beliefs, this class will only build upon the study of World Civilizations. I hope this class will be a challenge, but also a joy. This class will require you to work hard and have a great attitude each and every day. I can't wait to see you in my class.
Goals for this class:
•Students will be able to develop their own historical questions and analyze historical questions posed by others.
•Students will be able to read, understand, analyze, and interpret a variety of primary source documents, including literature, maps, graphs, political cartoons, letters, speeches, and newspaper accounts.
•Students will be able to use the knowledge gained through their class discussions to formulate an articulate opinion that addresses an historical question with relevant, significant, and substantial historical evidence.
•Students will gain a much better understanding of how the history of the Western World has affected our current philosophies and beliefs.
•Students will be able to recognize patterns that seem to reoccur over time.
•Students will learn to support their reasoning with valid examples supported with well-studied and/or researched facts (especially in the area of writing).
